(f,nudity, sexually suggestive,pre-vore,chapeaucentric stereotypes) Here's another new/old premiere gag cartoon for your edification and elucidation. The drawling itelf is probably somewhere around 12 years old; something I drew for the old Jungle Janet webpage, but never got around to finishing up with dialogue and colo(u)r. I was especially glad to dig this one up out of the various stacks of doodles, failed roughs, and flotsam stacked up around the front porch/studio. The cannibal-stewpot fans out there are many, and they're always hungry -erm, for new cartoons, that is. Ahem. I've always gotten a lot of support from the cannibal gag fanbase online, just about as much as the quicksand gag fans; I've always appreciated it, and wish I'd done more of this type of cartoon for them. This was back when I was self-publishing small press comics, so a lot of the predominence of one type cartoon over another was a matter of economics. But, honestly, another factor was simply that it's always been easier for me to come up with funny quicksand gags than funny cannibal-stewpot gags. Not to imply I'm claiming any kind of originality in the rendering (so to speak) you see above; it was probably being hooted down as 'corny' on the decks of The Titanic. I figure in about another twelve years, I can repost the same cartoon with a dialogue balloon about the Nankipus having 'potluck'-should elicit just as many groans from folks a second time...I was trying for a different 'look' while adding colo(u)r to this cartoon. I was inspired by a lot of the artists I follow on DA whose colo(u)ring skills I admire; there are many, and I wouldn't want to slight anyone by leaving them off an impromptu listing. Artists who've achieved what I've found to be a very aesthetically pleasing blend of line art and purely colo(u)r-based rendering. I'm pretty satisfied with the results, at least for the time being; it's better than the 'Jungle Janet' colo(u)r comic story I recently finished up and posted. I've also found a few more old, unused cartoons that I'm going to try to colo(u)r and post over the next several weeks. Bear with me, I'll have something for all you various Jungle Peril fans, promise! Don't think I could ever colo(u)r a multi-page comic story in this manner, though. Perhaps there's an art program out there that would make the time-consuming, laborious process-even on a crowded, but relatively simple, drawering like this one-of creating the masks and layers involved less of a headache. All I know is, working with what I do, I could never do it. I drew that JJ comic for colo(u)r, too-very simple line art. The thought of taking any given page and changing these black lines into tan ones, and these into blue ones, and these other ones into green ones-and struggling to decide when blue becomes brown or green when lines intersect; then blending the colo(u)rized line art with their appropriate 'fill' colo(u)r -working to add just enough light/dark highlights so the line art doesn't disappear or overpower; all while not leaving 'cutout' lines when pasting in dialogue balloons or adding background elements - well, I'd go crazy. Er. This single image took me about as long to do as the 7-page comic story. Maybe, with more practice, it'll go faster, and I'll get better at all of - ehh, no, not even then :)
